Getting to Know Aulfat Bi, Head of Capital Allowances
Aulfat Bi has recently joined Innovation 4 Business to head up the new Capital Allowances team.
Aulfat Bi joins Innovation 4 Business to head up the new team, bringing with her almost 20 years’ experience in this specialist area of tax, most recently being one of the leads for the national Tax Depreciation team based in Birmingham.
Whilst there were Capital Allowances claims of almost £99 billion in 2018-19 it remains an area of tax relief that is often not claimed by businesses. Capital allowances is a tax relief that companies can claim from HMRC against retained assets, commonly items such as plant, machinery and company vehicles. With the introduction of Structures & Building Allowances previously non qualifying assets such as walls, floors and ceilings can now also qualify for tax relief, subject to meeting certain criteria. The Manufacturing sector claims the greatest amount of Capital Allowances overall, accounting for 12%, or £12.2 billion, of the total amount claimed.
Aulfat said about her new role: “I am really looking forward to working with Innovation 4 Business and to growing the Capital Allowances team and offering. I have already had some great conversations with existing clients of the business, and others who will be new clients – and I am certainly hitting the ground running. I love working at speed so am relishing this environment and opportunity. I know this will be a huge area of success for Innovation 4 Business, and I am looking forward to sharing in that”.
Aside from her specialist tax knowledge, Aulfat is a keen speaker and spent many hours in lockdown organising and speaking on webinars.
Being Diversity and Inclusion lead for Deloitte’s national Capital Allowances department, Aulfat had recently been working on a programme to ensure D&I is at the heart of the people focus in Gi3 and to also ensure they were implementing the firm’s commitment to the Black Action Plan and progression for ethnically diverse staff.
Aulfat was Wellbeing Champion for Tax and Legal; Cyber risk champion for Capital Allowances team; Relationship manager for the Birmingham office’s charity partner, Place2Be, also winning a Deloitte Impact award for the work done with the previous charity partner, Action4Children.
Aulfat was also a senior Committee member for the Deloitte Muslim Network (DMN), focusing on firmwide (and global) mentoring programmes for members of the DMN and also the multi-cultural network.
Finally, in her spare time, Aulfat is a volunteer with the Shout Crisis textline and a Thai Boxing and MMA enthusiast, and is looking forward to being part of the Innovation 4 Business Run Club!
